BENEFITS

Benefits under the ESI Scheme

The section 46 of the Act envisages following six social security benefits :-
In addition, the scheme also provides some other need based benefits to insured workers.
These includes :

An interesting feature of the ESI Scheme is that the contributions are related to the paying capacity as a fixed percentage of the workers wages, whereas, they are provided social security benefits according to individual needs without distinction.
Cash Benefits are disbursed by the Corporation through its Branch Offices and Pay Offices, subject to certain contributory conditions.

DISABLEMENT BENEFIT No Condition As   long   as   temporary disablement   lasts   and for    life,    in    case   of permanent  disablement 90% of wages for TDB & proportionate to loss of earning capacity for permanent disability.
DEPENDANTS’ BENEFIT No Condition For life, to the widow /
widowed mother or until her re – marriage and to
each legitimate or adopted son until Twenty five years of age and unmarried daughter
proportionate rate based on 90% of the wages. (approx)
MATERNITY BENEFIT Payment of contribution for 70 days in two preceding consecutive contribution
periods
12 weeks in case of normal delivery
6 weeks for miscarriage
Additional payment for 1 month for complications arising out of pregnancy/ confinement/ premature birth of child/Miscarriage

MEDICAL BENEFIT Insured Persons/families eligible from the date of entry into insurable employment. Medical Benefit is also available against a monthly contribution of Rs. 10/- to;

(a) Retired Insured Persons (and their spouses) with a minimum of 5 years service.

(b) Disabled Insured Persons (due to Employment Injury) and their spouses, till the age of super-annuation.

Till the temporary disability/disease lasts.

Full medical care for Insured Persons, Families are provided full/expanded/restricted medical facilities depending on the facilities extended to the centre.
